Our Philosophy
As a student newsmagazine that only comes out once every five weeks, The Advocate takes a different approach to news than traditional sources. Instead of concentrating on world news that is available from more powerful and traditional sources instantaneously, we strive to cover issues relevant to the Albuquerque Academy with greater depth and take new, original perspectives on larger issues.
The Advocate is a public forum for student expression. Opinions are those of staff members and contributing editors who asssume responsibility for articles presented herein. Editorials represent the majority view of The Advocate's editorial board.
In implementing these ideas, The Advocate has moved to make its content available to the whole community with The Advocate Online.
About The Advocate
The Advocate is an award-winning newsmagazine published entirely by Albuquerque Academy students every five weeks. We follow a pre-Hazelwood free speech policy; only the two sponsors see the copy before it goes to press. The editor-in-chief makes all decisions concerning content. The faculty sponsors reserves the right to pull material that violates the school's concerns for libel, confidentiality, obscenity, and disruption.
The history of the newspaper can be traced to 1972 with The Vista, our newspaper's ultimate predecessor. After going through a series of transformations, including the transformation to a newsmagazine in 2003, student journalism at Albuquerque Academy is now vested in The Advocate.
