The Academy girls varsity softball team has another season in the books. Finishing with a record of 2-23, the team will not make it into the state tournament. The focus now is on next year’s team. The team is only losing one senior to graduation, Leah Trainor.
Head coach Mike Pettenuzzo said “next year, the girls will know what to think, practice wise, and individually what they need to do to get their game better.” Pettenuzzo also said the “maturity of a few players really grew.” He said this is what he likes to see in a player along with “effort given in practice and games.”
Despite the team’s struggles with their won-lost record, they had fun moments like the time “when I wiped out on a homerun trot on third in our first game,” said team member Theresa Sagartz ’13. All in all it was a learning season for the Chargers. “We laid the foundation for next year,” Sagartz said.
